Job Title: Head of Regulatory Risk

How did you come to choose your present career?

I really enjoyed maths at school and thought working in a bank would be the perfect place. I decided to go to University and my interest in this area led me to choose a degree in Financial Services, a course specially designed for the financial services industry.

Tell us a bit about your current role?

My role as Head of Regulatory Risk is quite varied on a day to day basis. I provide support to the business and the Board of Directors by means of advice, guidance and monitoring in respect of regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures. I manage a team of 16 staff across 4 locations, Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Gibraltar. In my role I also have to liaise with the external regulators and participate in working parties to ensure that the position of RBS International is effectively presented. There is also an element of project work involved in my role where I initiate and manage projects to implement revised regulatory requirements.

What do you like most about your job?

I really enjoy the opportunity I have to train and help others develop and the interaction with the business. I get great satisfaction from problem management and working things through to a positive outcome. Being appreciated for the role undertaken and the input provided really motivates me at work.

What training and development opportunities are available to you?

The business areas within RBS International are very different and therefore there is the opportunity to move around and constantly learn. An excellent leadership framework exists for managers at all levels. There is also the opportunity to undertake professional study and attend industry seminars and courses which is invaluable in understanding the bigger picture. My aim is to progress to an executive position within the next three to five years.

What makes RBS International different to other employers?

The culture is driven and provides new and exciting opportunities.
